A Full Heart

...and my 15 year old AIDS patient has taken a turn for the worse and is categorized as end-stage. I feel like I'm abandoning her, ending CPE right now. Another difficult learning.

The chocolate cake was good, though.

  1. I am feeling this along with you. I did not get to walk with the family of the young man with the failing heart through the decisions they needed to make in his last days.

I'm so sorry about your patient. You are not abandoning your patients but I know it feels that way.

I am learning that one of the hardest things about CPE is it being over. It was rough and I don't miss it in some ways. However, it left quite a void in my life and some serious wounds that I am now wondering how to care for.
